What is the Spiritual Psychology of Acting?

Inspired and guided by ancient wisdom, combined with modern science, the Spiritual Psychology of Acting is a comprehensive body of practical knowledge on the art and craft of acting. The training has been developed to meet the true needs of the professional actor, living and working in the 21st Century.

The purpose of The Spiritual Psychology of Acting is to provide actors with clear knowledge and ground-breaking techniques to help them to dig deep, in order to create truthful, compelling characters; to get out of their own way and ultimately to fulfil their potential, both as a human being and as a professional artist.

What is Active Embodiment?

Central to the Spiritual Psychology of Acting, Active Embodiment is a modern, organic acting technique, which allows actors to analyse and create any character’s general and immediate psychology, and express it through imagination and action.

Created by British director, John Osborne Hughes, Active Embodiment is the culmination of the work begun by Stanislavski and further developed by Michael Chekhov and Sam Kogan.

It enables actors to quickly and efficiently find the best choices to serve the story through the characters they play, and to embody them in a truthful, compelling form.

The workshop will cover the theory and practical application of Active Embodiment and provide you with the essential knowledge and technique to truthfully and effectively act any character, from any play or film, in any style or genre.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • The fundamental principles of great acting
  • How to develop awareness, the ability to watch your own thoughts
  • How to overcome fear and creative blocks
  • How to develop your imagination as an actor
  • How to free the body of tensions
  • How to select and embody the three fundamental foundation stones of the characters psyche (Mind Triad)
  • Active Embodiment for better self tapes
  • Zen and the art of acting

Each session starts with meditation, Saturday starts with a special vocal and yoga-based warm up for actors.

The workshop includes practical group exercises.

Individual attention will be given to each student to help you master the techniques.

"Within a week of completing his course, I booked my first role in a television series (24). John is easily the most effective acting teacher I have ever worked with. I use his techniques every time I work, and find his ideas to be a continuing source of inspiration."
